  • Co-organizer of IC’s Mardi Gras Festival, annual festival for area high school students of foreign languages.
  • Presentation of “Why Bother About Herstory?” at the invitation of Phi Alpha Literary Society, 7 March 2006.
  • Organizer of Convocation “To Write for the Duty of Memory: German Colonial History in the Francophone Literature of Cameroon,” by Dr. Albert Gouaffo, University of Dschang, Cameroon, 26 September 2005.
  • Presenter in the first “Last Lecture” Series, Spring 2003, at the invitation of the Student Activity Board, marking the 100th anniversary of the college’s admission of women.  (Assignment:  “What would you say to students if you were to give your last lecture ever?”)
  • Collaboration with IC’s Theater Department for German language stage production of Die Frau mit dem Dolche (‘The Woman with the Dagger’) by Arthur Schnitzler, Spring 2002.

  • Carole Ann Ryan Award of the Illinois Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, awarded to a future teacher of a foreign language: Andrew Chipman (German), Fall 2003.
  • Illinois College Summer Research Fellowship to investigate the introduction of steamboat technology in the Weser River, Germany, around 1816-17: Drew Leonard, ’03 (Environmental Economics major, German minor), Summer 2002.
