1. Restart...95% of the time your computer just needs a restart. Restarting your computer is like washing, drying and putting away the dishes in a messy kitchen. It gives the computer a clean slate. Before restarting, if possible, save any work you don't want to loose.

2. Ctrl + Alt + Delete... restarting may not always be possible through the start menu. If you've given your computer some time to unlock and it still doesn't respond, try holding down, simulataneously in this order, the Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys. A 'windows security' window should appear. Choose the 'task manager' button.

Single-click any program that may not be responding and then choose the 'end task' button.

If you receive this message, choose the 'end task' button. (You may receive this message multiples times for a single program)

Repeat this process for any programs that are not responding.

3. Shutdown... follow the same procedure with the Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys. Instead of choosing the 'end task' button choose the 'shut down' button.

4. Power off...when all else fails hold the power button on the front of your computer in until it powers down. This takes approximately 10 seconds. Wait a few seconds after the machine has powered off before powering it back on.
5. Help Desk...if your computer continues to experience issues please report them to the Help Desk at 3416.
