Changing Your NetID Password

The instructions below assume you know your current password. If you have forgotten your password, you must bring a picture ID card to the IT Help Desk on the third floor of Crispin.

To change your NetID Password first logon to a lab computer. Wait for the logon to finish. Hold down the CTRL + ALT keys and press the DELETE key. Release the keys.

A 'Windows Security ' window will appear.
Click on the 'Change Password..' button.
Enter your NetID in the 'User name' text box.
Enter ILLINOISCOLLEGE in the 'Log on to' text box. There are no spaces in the log on text.
Enter your current password in the 'Old Password' text box.

Enter what you would like your password to be in the 'New Password' text box.

Follow these rules to decide your new password:

  • DO NOT use easy to guess passwords.
  • Use 8 or more characters.

In addition, follow at least two of these rules:

  • One or more uppercase letters
  • One or more lowercase letters
    One or more numbers (cannot be at the beginning or end of the password)
  • One or more special characters (Do NOT use @ # % & = : ; ? / \ or a space because they can be problematic)
Enter this new password again in the 'Confirm New Password' text box.
Click the 'OK' button.
If you receive the following message you have entered your NetID and/or your current password incorrectly. Click the 'OK' button and re-enter the required information.
If you receive this 'do not match' message your 'new password' and 'confirm new password' entries do not match. Both must be typed exactly the same to match. Click the 'OK' button and re-enter the required information.
When all fields are entered correctly you will receive the following message. Click the 'OK' button. After you have successfully changed your campus NetID password, you may need to logoff and log back on.
