Abstract

   The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between the field of computer science and the liberal arts. Although there exist many computer science programs in liberal arts environments, the relationship between the two may not seem apparent to those outside the discipline. First, this paper will review the literature concerning the liberal arts and computer science. Second, it will provide an overview of the liberal arts and examine the field of computer science to draw connections between the two. Lastly, it will identify some possible difficulties and attempt to find some potential ways these difficulties might be resolved.
